Pressure Sensor
A novel biomedical compatible optical fibre pressure sensor for clinical diagnostics | |
This research is funded through the Science Foundation Ireland – Research Frontiers Program. This research will create an optical fibre based Extrinsic Fabry-Perot Interferometric pressure sensor with an integrated Fibre Bragg Grating for temperature compensation. The sensor has a diameter of approx. 200 microns and is a unique all silica biomedically compatible design. These sensors will be integrated in a urethral catheter to measure vesicourethral pressure for diagnosing urodynamic disorders such as Bladder Outlet Obstruction (BOO). The project team includes: ⦿ Prof. Elfed Lewis: OFSRC; ⦿ Dr. Gabriel Leen, OFSRC; ⦿ MD Deirdre McGrath: Graduate Entry Medical School, University of Limerick; ⦿ MD Ferdinando Fusco, Dipartimento di Urologia, Facoltà di Medicina, Università di Napoli Federico II, Napoli, Italy; ⦿ Prof. MD Vincenzo Mirone: Dipartimento di Urologia, Facoltà di Medicina, Università di Napoli Federico II, Napoli, Italy; and ⦿ Mr Sven Poeggel, OFSRC. |
